Long-distance construction monitoring

Email and a cell phone, both very useful...

Betsy called Tuesday (as I mentioned earlier) to tell me, among other things, that I needed to pick out my cabinet pulls. Today I got an email from Mary (sent from Betsy's account) asking if I'd had a chance to do that yet. Maybe not...time's a little short when on a business trip, and it might be a little hard getting all the pulls home from Denver...

Anyway, I called and told her "not yet", we chatted about my cats as she'd been at my house this morning as the bookcase installation was starting, and had visited with Fish and shut him safely in my bedroom--Agatha was already in there. Fish apparently ingratiated himself, and Mary was charmed. Mary also asked if I had finalized my laminate choices for the laundry and Cat Room counters, and I waffled a little but said go ahead. Her email said the granite templating will happen tomorrow. Very cool--I was afraid that might be something that had a delay due to scheduling.

I then spoke with Betsy a little later, who said the laminate ordering wasn't urgent and that I could wait and look at the samples next to the now-installed cabinets. She also warned me that the tall oven cabinet had required some ceiling drywall damage to be installed and that would be patched later. And that she and Tyson had a punch list for various cabinet details that the installer would deal with, some of which might require ordering a little more trim. Her basic message was "don't freak out about gaps and stuff now, we're not done yet".

We also talked a little about the two wooden boxes that I will use as steps to the counter in the Cat Room, and she wants to wait a little and check on the sizes. My idea is one box that's 12x12x12, and another that's 12x12x24. Preferably with a hinged lid so the inside can be used for a little storage, but that's not a necessity. We'll discuss it some more before she gets someone working on these, I think.

Database testing is mostly wrapped up, and I head home tomorrow. There was some faint hope of getting on an earlier flight, but I see that the open seats that showed this afternoon are now gone. Guess I'll stick with getting home at 8:40, instead of around 6.
