I have committed cat

The renovation is done, Agatha and Fish and I have settled into the new space, so I decided it's time to shake things up some. Or a lot, depending--we'll see. I'm adding a third cat to the household. I decided on this a while back, partly in the hopes that a kitten will be more of a playmate for Fish, thus removing some of the aggravation from Agatha's life. Another reason is that Agatha is getting elderly and has some problems (chief among them the kidney disease), so this is looking ahead a little, too.

I wanted a short-haired female, but what I found is a 'medium-hair' female, currently going by the name of Linka.

(The pictures are a little old--she's larger and sleeker now.) I could have found a short-hair kitten at one of the other, larger, rescue organizations, I'm sure, but I'm pretty committed to The Dog House Rescue folks--that's where I got Fish. Linka's their only female kitten at present.

Linka will not join the household until December 1. I leave for south Georgia on Tuesday for Thanksgiving, returning Saturday. Agatha and Fish will feel abused for having been left to the care of the pet sitter, so I'll wait until the following Friday to get the new cat, and I'll then have my three-day weekend to try to get through the worst of the "introduction of new cat" period.

I'm also contemplating a different name. Linka isn't a bad name, but doesn't speak to me. (It apparently means "mannish" in Hungarian.) I have an old book called "What to name the Cat" that my niece went through over dinner this evening--she concluded I should name the cat "Namennayo", which means "don't lick me" in Japanese. Will have to see how she reacts to Fish's face-washings first, I think.

I'm contemplating Bujoldian names--Ista? (Eats demons....might be interesting.) Cordelia? (Not a red-head, will have to see if she has the force of personality to be a Cordelia.) Not Hallana, thanks. Don't want any hint of that level of chaos added to my house.

Or I could mine T.S. Eliot--Jennyanydots, the Gumbie Cat? (She is a tabby cat...personality yet to be seen, of course.) I'm open to other suggestions....

It took us over a month to name Hudson (after the butler on Upstairs, Downstairs). We tried any number of things before deciding to just wait and see what seemed right. The vet knew him as "no name" for awhile.

I wouldn't force it. The effable effable will make itself known eventuaqlly.

She is absolutely adorable! Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

And you could always name her Zap! ;)

This kitty is such a cutie, icecream melted all down my freshly-washed sweatshirt, & I didn't even notice [until far too late]. Congrats on the new arrival; I hope introductions go well.

P. S.
The name Alys would be a) flattering to a certain local Ekaterinesque filker and b) might encourage a modicum of decorum. [One can always hope.]
