The week between

Between two trips, that is. And two committee meetings, the purpose of the trips. Chicago was the water-use user group (database users, that is), and I'm en route to Portland, OR for the groundwater user group. I'm on both of these because the two disciplines share a lot of issues and a lot of database functionailty.

So the week between was paperwork (file travel voucher for Chicago, make sure Portland was set, timesheet), other committees via conference calls on Monday and all Wednesday afternoon, some water-use work (Yet Another Revised Dataset on the national report--I suspect we'll have revised datasets until this thing hits the cartographic unit for final drafting), email catchup, some (but not enough) prep for the Portland meeting, and online training. I'd let some online training slip by in the erratic work schedules of the spring, and then more got assigned. So I've now taken and passed:

Portable fire extinguisher education
2009 orientation to the Privacy Act
2009 Records management awareness
Safety: 2009 exit routes, emergency action plans, and fire prevention plans
Safety: 2009 office safety
Safety: 2009 walking and working surfaces

I regard at least 2, maybe 3 of these to be completely outside of my job concerns, being more suited for those who have to prepare or evaluate safety plans. Must try to talk my supervisor out of assigning them again next year. I mean, the requirements for ladders attached to the outside of tanks or buildings?

So I'm on the way to Portland--I used a chunk of the 5 hour flight time for working on my part of the upcoming meeting, but of course found I need an Internet connection to do it all. Tonight and tomorrow I'll be getting together with a friend who retired last year and his wife. Dinner tonight, and tomorrow they offered to take me on an excursion to the Oregon coast. Tuesday the groundwater user group meeting starts, and Tuesday night I'll have a mini-Pifflefest with Kay/oregon_katy. Wednesday evening the GW group will compress our work day and take off in mid-afternoon to drive to Multnomah Falls on the Columbia River gorge. Thursday evening is open--I will probably try to include a visit to Moonstruck Chocolates as part of my evening. Should be a nice combination of work and fun.

Definitely. We have had our 100+ spell in Georgia this year--that was the week of Daddy's funeral, when we cancelled the graveside part of the service because it was too hot.

Today friends took me over the coast, where it was foggy (part of the day) and COOL! I wore my jacket! It was lovely....

The coast is always a good alternative to heat in this part of the country if you can get there [g].
