Helicopters all in a row

Yesterday, driving home from work, I glanced up and spotted 3 helicopters lined up in the sky, all hovering in place. My first thought was "really bad accident on I-85", as the line of copters could have been over the Interstate. But as I drove on, it became apparent that they were west of I-85.

Finally figured it out from a local news bit on NPR: a plane crashed on the roof of a house shortly after taking off from Peachtree-DeKalb airport. The plane apparently snagged on some pine trees first, then dropped upside down on the roof of the house. No fire, no one seriously injured, even though the engine of the plane dropped into the kitchen beside the woman who lives there.

And all the helicopters were lined up taking footage for the 6 o'clock news, of course.

Kitchen remodeling

I'm (deep breath) going to remodel the kitchen. It's not that it doesn't need it--I said when I bought the house, 10 years ago, that the kitchen needed to be re-done. The formica counters (blue-green) were buckling even then. The appliances are mostly original to the early 1960's house. But...I dread the disruption, and I dread the process of deciding exactly what to do, picking a contractor, monitoring the work, and on and on.

I may play around with a floor-plan drawing program and do the current layout--I downloaded a demo that doesn't seem too hard to use. But then, the architect will hopefully get started soon, too.
