  • Fri, 18:54: Tweets will be in blobs--Internet access only evenings at hotel.
  • Fri, 18:54: Been a long time since I was served a hot meal on a plane: airline food has not improved.
  • Fri, 18:54: Dinner: choice of beef stew w potatoes, carrot, cauliflower, or pasta. Sides=piece of ham w potato salad, cold bread roll, choc mousse.

  • Fri, 18:55: Breakfast: yogurt, choc bread (warm!), Milano cookies. http://t.co/ONlRFTcP
  • Fri, 18:56: Short night, flying east. Only managed catnaps--seat in front of toilets means hearing every flush. Breakfast was @ 1 am Atlanta time.
  • Fri, 18:56: Cold & wet in Rome as we debarked down stairs to tarmac to shuttle bus. Big plane to unload that way--airbus 330E.
  • Fri, 18:56: Travel agent arranged car and driver to haul the 6 of us plus luggage to hotel.
  • Fri, 18:59: Hotel rooms not ready at 9 am. Checked on, left bags, got courtesy coffee in their breakfast room.
  • Fri, 19:00: Off to Triton fountain, led by niece who was here on school trip a couple of years ago. Fountain invisible behind construction barrier. :(
  • Fri, 19:00: On to Trevi Fountain, NOT under construction. Looks just like pictures, only colder Then found pizza on way to Pantheon.
  • Fri, 19:00: After a nice lunch, walked on to Pantheon. I had to see it as a sophisticated early use of concrete with pumice aggregate to build dome.
  • Fri, 19:01: Fr Pantheon walked back to hotel passing Quirinale Palace, home of Italian President. Crashed in hotel room mid afternoon.
  • Fri, 19:01: R and I failed to find a tourist office Did check out tent market perhaps set up for Xmas, then asked our questions of the desk clerk.
  • Fri, 19:03: Clerk set up early 5:30 dinner reservations for us at Lo Pentolaccia. Pretty touristy--lots of English overheard.
  • Fri, 19:05: Amuse bouche of veg. quiche, then i had saltimbocca, broccoletti. Good, not great. R's eggplant parmigiana was excellent, B's sea bass also.
  • Fri, 19:07: Then back to hotel and I paid 3€ for 1 hr of wi-fi. They have 2 computers you can use free, but it costs to use own device.
  • Fri, 19:09: Tomorrow plan: Castel San'Angelo, meet younger niece L at Spanish Steps, then do Colosseum and Forum.

I hope you liked Castel San"Angelo! And the Colosseum, of course- many interesting things to see there! Is Rome very crowded?

Very crowded--despite all the stuff we'd like to see, we're glad to be gone. See today's blast of tweets for details.

Wish we had found a guidebook for Castel San'Angelo before making the visit, as we only saw a part and I think missed what we would have enjoyed the most. Beautiful views of Rome, though!
